Hey there, welcome to my first blog about my experience attending the Wemakedevs meetup on May 7th, 2023!
A little bit about myself, My name is Teesha Jain. I am an Application Engineer working in Hexaview Technologies.
So, let's begin! It was my very first tech event, and I was nervous and excited! I woke up with a ton of excitement to go there, but my cab got canceled last minute. So, I had to book a new one, and I thought I would be late, but nope! I reached there at 10:50 am, just in time for the event.
First things first, there was a Saraswati Diya light-up ceremony. We were eagerly waiting for Kunal Kushwaha, the founder of Wemakedevs, of course, everyone knows him. But sadly, he couldn't attend this meetup because he had another conference lined up. We were a little sad about it, but the Wemakedevs team did a great job of carrying the event forward.
We started with Kunal's recorded video in which he greeted us, talked a little bit about open source and other stuff and said that he would make a big announcement that day. But wait, you'll get to know that later. Then the event started.
The first speaker was Subhasmita Swain, who works as an SRE at CIVO, and she spoke about DevOps vs. MLOps. I won't go into much detail about the topic because this blog is about my experience and not about the topics. But what I liked about her was her confidence, and it was an interactive session. I learned about the difference between DevOps and MLOps.
Then we had a sponsored video, of course, sponsors are important, so let's give a shoutout to them. The first sponsor was boot.dev
It is an interactive, self-paced, online learning path for back-end developers.
The second session was about "GitOps: Just a Buzzword" by Abhinav Dubey, a DevOps engineer at Devtron and a CNCF ambassador, who gave a talk on "GitOps Just a Buzzword." It was a new thing for me. I had never heard of this term before, so thanks, Abhinav, for enlightening us. At least now, if someone says GitOps, I'll understand it. :)
Now, let me tell you about the special announcement as well. Kunal is going to start a new program called Super25. This program aims to provide exclusive benefits to 25 selected individuals. The Super25 program offers expert-led webinars on a wide range of topics to help participants expand their knowledge and enhance their skills. Anyone can apply to this program by visiting the following link. You can also find more details about the program's timeline and requirements at the same link.
Now, it's time for our second sponsor video, which was Fluxninja. FluxNinja was founded in 2021 with the mission to bring reliability automation to cloud-native applications. With Aperture open source and FluxNinja ARC, their goal is to democratize reliability engineering tooling for everyone.
It was time for lunch after learning so much. We had pizza and soft drinks, and there I met a college girl who was in her 3rd year. There were many students around me, so I felt a little old there. LOL. But that one girl came to me and asked if I was alone there too. So she joined me, and we had a talk about industry culture, DSA, and Faang hype. It was a nice networking session for me (I don't like talking to too many people. One good person is enough for me).
After a refreshing break, the DevOps Bootcamp event continued with a session by Apoorv Goyal, the founder of Virtual Tech School and a web developer, on containerizing and its implementation in daily work. This session was the highlight of the event for me.
Then there was a panel discussion on the topic "Path from a novice to a seasoned techie" featuring Siddhant, Aakansha, Bhavya, and Rakshit. Although the discussion was great, the only downside was the shortage of time. The panel stressed the importance of communities, learning in public, and documenting one's learning journey through blogging, which can serve as proof of work and help get noticed by potential employers.
There was one more sponser video of Avesha. Avesha’s products fast-track your digital transformation with ease, ability and scale. They have a project called Kubeslice, What use takes weeks to do, can now be done in minutes using KubeSlice.
In the closing ceremony, Bhavya Sachdeva, Ambassador at Kubesimplify and Developer at WeMakeDevs, shared her experience and highlighted Rawkode Academy as a great sponsor for learning Kubernetes. Rawkode Academy is a great platform to enhance one's knowledge and skills in this cutting-edge technology.
The event concluded with networking and photo sessions, during which attendees got the opportunity to connect with others and take memorable photos. The swags provided by the sponsors were also greatly appreciated. Attending such events offers numerous benefits, such as gaining knowledge, networking, and building a community of like-minded individuals, and I highly recommend everyone to join.
A big thanks to #wemakedevs team, Aayush, Kaiwalya and all others for managing the event.
